Luang Prabang

Our next stop in Laos was the charming and chilled city of Luang Prabang. The main thing to do here is literally just to wander around and sit in cafes all day.

To get to Luang Prabang, we had to navigate the same road we took a few days earlier. However, this time it had rained a lot and the unpaved road became very slippy. We also got a puncture meaning this five hour journey took seven and a half hours.

After recovering from the horrible journey, it was time to explore. There’s lots of temples and a viewpoint in the centre, so that’s what we spent our first day exploring.

There is a wonderful night market, full of things to buy, food and drink. I spent the evening there, and the next two evenings. The passion fruit smoothies were incredibly tasty.

The next day, we took a trip out of town to the Kuang Si waterfall. Now this is probably the most beautiful waterfall I have ever seen. There was also a rescue centre for bears on the way in.

For our last day in Luang Prabang, we did what we were supposed to do, and travelled between coffee shops for the entire day. We did take a short detour into the royal palace, which was in fact a bit rubbish (and you couldn’t take photos).

Our short time in Laos is done. There’s not a huge amount to do here, but it’s a very laid back country and has its charms.
