Working hard in New Zealand

This post covers my working holiday in New Zealand, although in a very condensed way.

I have to admit I’ve been awful, while Dylan came with me back to New Zealand, I didn’t take many, if any, photos of him. I was a working man, sadly this wasn’t about Dylan this time.

I decided to come back to New Zealand, as it was my favourite place that I visited in all of my travels.

I arrived in Auckland, where I searched for a job (anywhere) and a vehicle. In New Zealand, you can convert cars/vans so that they are self contained, meaning you can sleep in them in certain places. I hadn’t considered buying one before I arrived, but having explored Facebook Marketplace, I was the proud owner of a crappy Nissan Serena.

On the same day, I also luckily got a job on a dairy farm, to start two weeks later, down on the South Island. So that meant a road trip to the South Island.

I worked on the dairy farm for 5 months, milking cows, putting up fences, driving the tractor, and all sorts of other random jobs. It was such a great experience.

I also spent Christmas Day working on the farm, which was a new experience for me. I’m not sure I’d like to do that again!

Following my time on the farm, I decided to move up to the North Island to take part in the kiwi fruit picking season. I didn’t want to actually pick the fruit, but applied for a tractor drive role, which then ended up being a forklift driving role.

It was fun to drive a forklift for a while, something I’d never thought of doing. It was going really well until I had a little bit of an accident and crashed the forklift. Apart from a few bruises and scratches, I came out of it relatively unscathed. It did, however, made me give a lot of thought into what I was doing in New Zealand.

I decided that I would cut my New Zealand working holiday short so that I could travel back to the UK through South East Asia, and that’s why this blog has been resurrected.

My time in New Zealand wasn’t all work though. I had plenty of time to see more sights now that I had transport. Below are some highlights.
