Third time is the charm for Australia
After leaving New Zealand, I went back to Australia for the third time for three reasons: to see me friend Maddie, my friend Alex, and to catch a flight to the Philippines.
I spent the first two days visiting my friend Maddie, who I met on my South America tour. She’s based in the Sunshine Coast, where I went to her mum’s house for a proper Aussie BBQ, and we explored some of the picturesque towns in the area. I actually only took one photo, of her mum’s pool, to prove that she’s posh (incidentally most people on the Sunshine Coast have a pool in their home).
After saying goodbye to Maddie, I got the cheapest train of my life to Brisbane. 50p for a two hour journey. Insane. I was only in Brisbane to send my excess luggage home, and get a flight to Sydney the next day.
Then I flew to Sydney to visit my friend Alex from home. Alex and his wife Sophie have moved to Australia to work for a year or maybe longer, so I stayed at their place for a few days.
Now, I went to Sydney on my first trip to Australia, but I needed to correct a visit to the Blue Mountains, which was covered in fog last time I went. A much better visit this time!
The next day was Anzac Day, a public holiday, where we attended a local bowls club to take part in the game of ‘two up’. It’s actually only legally allowed to played on a select few days a year and involves throwing two coins in the air and betting on how they land.
For my last day in Sydney, I had to take a trip down to the harbour.
That was the end of my short third stint in Australia, ready to move onto the Philippines.
