Hot in Hoi An

A first time trip to Hoi An for Dylan, the second time for me. I’ve returned here as I liked it so much the first time, but also to see my friend Sarah and her boyfriend James, who are here on their holidays.

We took an early flight from Dalat to Hoi An, arriving mid morning. We couldn’t check into our hotel yet, so we went for a coffee and took a quick look around the old town.

Another reason for coming back to Hoi An was so that I could buy a new wallet. When I was last here 9 years ago, I had a leather wallet made. You can get anything made here, from bags to shoes, to whole suits. I decided it was time to retire my current wallet and buy a new one. Farewell to my old wallet, born and died in the same place.

It was very hot in Hoi An, so an afternoon rest in the air con of the hotel was necessary (and was needed every day). I met up with Sarah and James in the evening as we explored Hoi An at night. The main attraction here are the lantern boats that sail up and down the river.

The next day was all about the old town again, visiting more sights and just chilling out in various cafes.

I also bumped into a bar which is themed on Mr Bean. I can’t quite grasp why this is here or who thought it was a good idea.

The evening again was spent overlooking the river and doing a spot of people watching.

The next day I decided to head out of town and walk towards the beach. This meant walking through some rice fields and saying hello to the local water buffalo. After getting too hot, I then decided to retreat to the hotel by getting a motorbike taxi.

After another evening of chilling by the river, it was time to fly up to the north for our next big adventure.
