South America
Our time in South America has come to an end, my favourite continent of all of those I have been to in the last year. I was also introduced to the concept of overlanding, something I’d definitely like to do again in the future.
We’re now heading back to the UK as Dylan has his second stag do of the year to attend. As this is a bit of a somber moment, we went to an airport lounge, ate lots and drank lots, before boarding our flight. I’d never been in a lounge before, so it was a fun experience.
Four and a half months ago, I remember being excited but nervous about travelling to South America. There’s a reputation of it being dangerous, but in hindsight it’s no more dangerous than London. Just be careful and you’re fine.
I’m glad I spent the long amount of time I did on this continent. It’s so incredibly varied, the landscapes are breathtaking, and the people very friendly.
It’s now my most explored continent, bar the north of Brazil and some smaller countries in the north.
I’m also glad I took part in the overlanding trip that carried me around the continent. Travelling with a group instead of solo was a fulfilling experience. I know some of these people better than some of my childhood friends, that’s what happens when you spend nearly 24 hours a day with the same people for four and a half months. Sure, it’s challenging (look at my blog for Lima in Peru), but it’s incredibly rewarding.
I’d do the whole thing again in a heartbeat.
We’re not quite done yet, but it’s nearly over. In the next three weeks we will be visiting our four final countries. All will be revealed on Friday.
