A frosty new year
Happy New Year to you all! We’ve started the new year in El Calefate, our last stop in Argentina for now.
After arriving in El Calefate, we headed to a bird sanctuary to see all sorts of birds including flamingoes.
Then it was back to get ready for the big night. We headed out to an ice bar first, before returning to the hostel to roll in the new year.
In what is the most productive thing I’ve ever done on New Year’s Day, we headed to see the Perito Moreno glacier. This is the most impressive glacier I’ve ever seen, as you can go right up to it on a boat. There’s so much ice breaking off the glacier that some of the boats had trouble navigating the water and needed to tow some of the icebergs away. Now I understand why the titanic sank.
The next day, we headed back across the border to Chile, where we will spend the next few days in the Torres del Paine National Park. Let’s hope the weather holds out as it’s not looking good…
