Getting salty on the way out of Bolivia

After Potosí, we headed to Uyuni, home of the salt flats of Bolivia. We spent three nights here, but all there was to see was, you guessed it, the salt flats.

We started our journey looking at how they produce products from the salt flats, which I found rather boring, so didn’t take any photos. After that we headed to a monument of flags. I wasn’t expecting a Welsh flag to be there… but in a moment of panic exploring, I was right, there was no Welsh flag. There wasn’t even an English flag, or a British flag, but there was a Scottish flag. I did try and make a makeshift Welsh flag from the Italian flag, but it was disappointing.

After the flag parade, we headed for the classic photos in the salt flats. You usually have something in front of the lens and something far behind to get a cool effect. Sadly, Dylan was too small to achieve this, but I did get a photo with a dinosaur.

We then headed to an abandoned train yard, where we met a metal dragon.

After Uyuni, we headed to the Chile border. We drove across the Altiplano, and all I wanted to see was flamingos. Guess what we saw…

With that was the end of our time in Bolivia, the most bonkers country I’ve ever been to. I think it’s been my favourite so far in South America, purely due to the unexpected things that have happened.

Anyway, off to Chile we go.
