Touching the rainbow

In the fourth and final catch up post, we had some time to explore Cusco and take a side trip to the Rainbow Mountain, which was absolutely hilarious. Check out this llama that Dylan made friends with.

Before Rainbow Mountain, we had a good explore of the city of Cusco itself. It is full of Inca buildings as well as lots of tourists, but very charming.

The day after finishing the Inca Trail, we went up Rainbow Mountain. I’d like to say I hiked all the way up, but I was far too exhausted to do so. Luckily, there were some horses ready to take lazy people to near the top, so I jumped on for the first ride of my life. It was absolutely terrifying and the photos do not give it justice how scared I was.

Once off the horse, we needed to walk the last section which included climbing to over 5,000 metres, a new record! Also at the top were some very photogenic llamas. Some might think this is tacky, but I thought it was hilarious.

With one last night in Cusco, and no early morning start for the first time in a week, we headed out to an Irish bar for the evening. The next day we headed on a night bus to our next destination, Arequipa.
