Flying across the desert
In catch up post two of four, we head to the seaside town of Paracas, where we saw some sea lions and penguins. After this, we headed back inland to the desert, taking a flight over the Nazca Lines.
On arriving in Paracas, we immediately headed onto a boat to the Ballestas Islands, known as Peru’s answer to the Galápagos Islands (I’m not sure the comparison is credible to be honest!). From the boat, we saw sea lions, penguins and birds. The boat was also a “speed boat” so I got a bit wet.
After checking into our hostel, I went for a stroll along the promenade and ate some seafood for which Peru is famous for. We also had a bit of fun on an inflatable obstacle course out at sea.
The next day we made our way to Nazca via the Huacachina oasis in the desert. Here is the biggest oasis in Peru alongside massive sand dunes.
Sadly, on the way, our truck had a little breakdown, which means we are on public transport for a bit. We eventually made our way to a campsite (with a pool!) in Nazca, where we would be for a couple of nights to take a flight over the Nazca Lines. The locals don’t really have an explanations as to where these lines have come from. Some think UFO’s made them, while it sounds like it was just local people drawing them in years ago. They are so big that you need to take a flight to view them all.
The next day was a chilled day in and out of the pool before we headed to Cusco on a night bus. This was the first night bus I’d taken since I was in Australia, and I can’t say it was pleasant having the experience again!
