Deepest Darkest Peru
We’re now in Peru, where we will be for the next month. There’s lots planned in Peru, including the famous Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. For the first few nights in Peru, we have been camping on the beach and wild camping.
Following a very simple crossing into Peru from Ecuador, we drove to our beach stop, where we would be camping on the beach. The change in the landscape was surprising, as we were now surrounded by deserts and sand. Unfortunately, there is a huge amount of litter polluting the sides of the road.
After arriving at the beach and setting up camp, it was a time for a beach party to celebrate a birthday for someone in the group.
The next day I awoke to sand everywhere in my tent. This is why I hate beaches, sand just gets absolutely everywhere. As we had another night at the beach, it was a problem for the next day. I had bigger things to sort out, like getting a feed for the Rugby World Cup final. The kiwi in our group wasn’t particularly pleased with the result.
The next day, we headed towards our next stop, but given it was so far away, we had to wild camp half way. We were treated to a spectacular sunset while we were putting our tents up.
As this was the first time we had wild camped, I took Dylan for a photo shoot on the truck that is transporting us across South America.
The truck is absolutely huge and gains a lot of attention from the locals. It holds 38 of us, carries all our luggage and camping equipment, and even has a pull out kitchen and library. When we are camping, we take it in turns to cook for the rest of the group, my turn is coming up in a couple of weeks.
We’re back to hostels for the next week or so, heading to the seaside town of Huanchaco.
