Welcome to the Jungle
We’ve spent the last few days in the Amazon rainforest, staying at a lodge and venturing out into the jungle, and seeing lots of creepy crawlies.
As soon as we arrived and settled into the lodge, we headed out on a short trek into the nearby jungle up to a viewpoint overlooking a river.
After lunch we headed to a nearby lagoon to have a little bit of fun in the water. We then headed back and had a cultural session with the locals where we learnt about living in the jungle.
The following morning, we headed up a stream, climbing up a series of waterfalls, and getting drenched in the process.
We headed back for lunch and then went for a short trek to check out the plants and trees in the jungle.
We then made our own chocolate from the local cocoa beans, which was delicious, and then played a game where you had to shoot an arrow through a tube using your mouth. The winner was given a special parcel, which contained witchetty grubs. I of course had to try one.
Following that delicious meal, we had dinner and then headed out in a night trek. We were promised creepy crawlies, and it did not disappoint.
After that terrifying night trek, it was time to go to bed and leave the jungle the following morning. There’s two more stops for us in Ecuador, Banos and Cuenca.
