Tejo
We’ve been in the lovely little town of Salento the last few days, where we were introduced to the national bar sport of Tejo (pronounced Tay-ho).
Our journey to Salento started back in Medellin, with a 12 hour journey on the truck. We were treated to some beautiful views on the journey, before sadly tearing off a section of a hospital roof when pulling into Salento.
After a late arrival, it was time for some dinner, which was trout, apparently very popular in the area and tasty, then bed.
We headed to the nearby hills (I say hills but we climbed up to 3,000 metres), via the medium of jeeps. These jeeps seat 8 and the rest stand on the back. Quite the experience.
Once we arrived, we hiked alongside a river, cows and sheep, before arriving at the apparently famous palm trees.
Following a quick dash back into town before the rain hit, we had a quick explore, including climbing up to the town lookout.
For the evening’s entertainment, we played the national bar game of Columbia, Tejo. This involves throwing a metal ball at a lump of clay and scoring points. However, to score the most points, you need to hit the gunpowder in the middle and make it explode. It turns out I was rather good at this game, and I won!
Next stop, Popayan.
