Dylan’s creepy new friend
We’ve been in and around the area of Banff the last few days, including the Banff and Yoho National Parks. Dylan met this creepy looking bear at Moraine Lake.
We didn’t do much on the first day in Banff. It being a Sunday, the place was rammed, so it was best to avoid the most popular places. I did want to make sure I was back at the hostel for Wales v Australia, and what a game that was. Before that, we ventured to some local lakes and viewpoints in the immediate Banff area.
The hostel had an alpine lodge kind of feel to it. I bet it’s very cosy in the winter. My favourite part was the walk in fridge, which always scared me when you were inside and the door closed behind you. Fortunately, I never got trapped inside.
The next day we explored Yoho National Park, including the Emerald Lake and a couple of waterfalls.
The main attractions in the Banff area are Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. These are so popular that you are unable to access them without taking a shuttle bus, which you need to book two days in advance. First up was Lake Louise, which was absolutely rammed. I didn’t spend too much time at the lakeside, as there was only so long I could tolerate being around that number of people. I took a hike up into the hills by the lake, which featured glaciers and forests, and a bit of snow.
It was Moraine Lake’s turn the next day. It was a bit quieter here but unfortunately we couldn’t take a hike as you needed to be in large groups due to the presence of grizzly bears.
We then headed to the Grassi Lakes in the nearby Canmore.
We’ve just completed the epic two day drive back to Vancouver to drop the car off and to fly off to the next stop tomorrow.
