Dylan on Death Row
Sadly, Dylan has been a naughty boy and has had to stay on death row in Ottawa, while I enjoy the luxury of a hostel bed.
In reality, the hostel that we are staying in was previously a jail. It’s absolutely huge and they have retained a lot of the existing features such as death row. My dorm was previously the jail hospital and if you can afford your own room, you can actually have a bed in one of the old jail cells. The hostel offer a free tour of the jail, which we thoroughly enjoyed.
Aside from that, in spite of being the capital of Canada, Ottawa doesn’t really have that much to offer in terms of tourism. We did take a look around the parliament buildings, a church and some canals though.
We also took advantage of the museums which are free on a Thursday evening. We spent some time at the war museum, which had a large and impressive collection of tanks. We also went to the national art gallery, which has reaffirmed my disinterest in art. Apparently, putting three sets of lights together counts as art these days.
Just before Dylan was hung, I was able to save him from death row, and we’re now on the run to Montréal. I best scrub up on my French!
Once we arrive in Montréal, it’ll be a mad dash to drop my bag off at the hostel and then to a bar to watch the Rugby World Cup opener at about 3pm.
