Living it up in Langkawi
We’ve spent the last few days in Langkawi, an island up in north Malaysia. This is our last stop in Malaysia and in Asia for now before the return to Australia.
We took a quick flight over from Penang to Langkawi, definitely the most efficient option. After arriving, we didn’t do a whole lot that afternoon, just exploring the immediate vicinity of the hostel. The hostel itself was rather delightful, with its own sleeping cat.
The next day, I got back on the scooter so I could race around Langkawi island at my own pace. We headed to the sky bridge first, which needed to be accessed via cable car.
We then drove to see a random giant eagle.
And a very deserted beach.
Then up to the tallest point of the island. You can drive up here which was very fun on the scooter.
The next day was an early start as we went island hopping via jet skies. I’d never driven a jet ski before, and it was incredibly fun. It kind of felt like mountain biking but with an engine and water. I was warned the next morning to expect sore arms and back.
Finally in Langkawi, we spent the evening watching the sunset from the nearby beach and going to a very trashy club.
The next morning I woke up with sore arms and back. This meant it was incredibly difficult to pack and get out of Langkawi. I took an evening flight back to Kuala Lumpur and for the first time, stayed in an airport capsule hotel. To be fair, I was used to this kind of sleeping arrangement from hostels.
The morning after it was time for my flight back to Australia. Sadly I had the worst airport experience of my life, all down to the sheer incompetence of the staff at Air Asia, who had absolutely no clue what they were doing and didn’t give a toss about anything. I had to run through the airport and to my gate, with no time for breakfast, getting on the plane with only 5 minutes to spare.
It was a relief to then land in Perth, although I did get interrogated by security again because my passport wouldn’t scan again. It’s definitely going to need replacing!
We’ve got a couple of days in Perth now to prepare for the big west coast road trip.
