Chased by dogs

I’ve been up in the Cameron Highlands for the last few days, and instead of chasing animals, I’ve been chased by them instead. There’s lots of stray dogs up here, and if you get bitten, it’s game over, you need to go and get a rabies shot asap.

For the first time since we left Australia, it was back on the bus, and what a bus it was. A massive seat for my fat arse, and tonnes of leg room. No complaints here!

The Cameron Highlands has got a certain level of Britishness to it. There’s tea plantations everywhere, strawberry farms and lots of shops selling scones.

We started by taking a hike through a tea plantation, which included a stop at a viewpoint at the top of the hill. The trails here are rather challenging and technical, so there were lots of tricky sections to navigate.

At the end of the hike, we stopped at the tea house to have some tea and scones. I demonstrated to my non-British hiking buddies the Cornwall and Devon ways of preparing scones. THEY TASTE THE SAME AND IT MAKES NO BLOODY DIFFERENCE.

Then it was time for a well deserved rest in the afternoon before another hike the next day.

The next day we went up to Coral Hill, a hill in the centre of the highlands with views all around. We went up via a forest, and lots of the forests here are covered in moss, which makes them rather magical.

Sadly, on getting back down to a road, my worst fear of hiking in this area was realised. A pack of stray dogs were waiting for me.

Several people had warned us about the stray dogs, because if you get bitten, you need to go to hospital immediately, and it’s sadly not rare to be bitten in these parts. I tried avoided the dogs, but they gave chase and so I started to run. As one of the dogs started rubbing against my leg, I was fortunately saved by a local man who scared the dogs off. I have to admit the adrenaline was running high at that point.

Another relaxing afternoon awaited to finish our time off in the highlands.

Next stop, Glastonbury. Sorry, I mean Penang.
