Bandaged up in Bali

My first 24 hours in Indonesia have been rather eventful, ending up in hospital to get glass out of my foot!

It was an early start as we headed to Darwin airport for the early flight to Bali. I even had a window seat for the first time this trip.

Arriving at the airport in Bali was as stressful as expected. Gone is the simplicity of arriving in a first world country. I had to pay for a visa, get a SIM card, find a taxi, obtain cash and deal with the humidity.

But I arrived at the most beautiful hostel I’ve stayed in so far. I’ve got my own double bed in a dorm with added storage and curtains. The best bit is how cheap everything is. Now I may have got too excited by the drink prices and started a bit early. Two cocktails for about £3.30!

It being a Friday night, the hostel had plenty of events on with fajita Friday, beer pong and a pub crawl. Guess who won the beer pong and got himself a free breakfast for the next day.

The evening was fun until I stepped on a piece of broken glass. Sadly I was very unlucky in that the glass went straight through the sole of my sliders and into my foot. We did a quick clean up on it then I headed to hospital the next day to get it sorted.

I felt very sorry for myself so I enjoyed my free breakfast and stayed in the hostel all day watching video reels.

It felt a bit less painful the next day, so I spent my last day in Canggu exploring. The best way to do this is by scooter, which was incredibly fun and also a tad daunting. The roads here are not well managed!

It’s our final night in Canggu, and it’s going to be a tame one as I’m currently loaded up on drugs due to the foot. Tomorrow we head to Ubud for a few days to explore more of rural Bali.

For those interested in what the foot looked like at the time of the accident, you can scroll below. You have been warned.
