The Penguin Parade

After all the sightseeing around Melbourne city centre, we went for a day out to the nearby Phillip Island. This is most famous for the number of penguins that stroll out from the sea at sunset to go back to their burrows for the night, before returning to sea the next morning.

But first, we saw some koalas at a koala sanctuary. One koala in particular decided to put in a bit of a show for us.

After the koalas, we then headed to the tip of the island to watch the sun start to set. We did have to keep stopping in the bus however as wallabies kept getting in our way!

Finally it was time for the penguin parade. We waited at the beach for the penguins to appear from the sea, which they did like clockwork. They then hurried up to their burrows as we watched, thousands of them. It was definitely a sight that I won’t forget!
