The Adventures of Danny the Dope

I must apologise. I have not given Dylan the attention he deserves while in Queenstown. Quite frankly, there are no excuses, I have just been having too much of a good time. So I am afraid this post is all about my adventures rather than Dylan’s. Feel free to just close your browser if you are only here for Dylan photos.

Queenstown has broken me. It’s such an incredible place, but my 30 year old self struggled to keep up with the pace (but I did it!). Despite night out after night out, and spending far too much money on beer, I did manage to squeeze in this lot.

After the thrills of the bungy, I spent the next day (hungover) mountain biking. The beauty of these trails is that they attach your bike to the gondola itself (I’m glad it wasn’t my own bike hanging off the edge), so all of the riding you do is completely downhill. I was somewhat relieved with this situation given I was not in any state to be doing exercise.

The next day I did some canyoning. I didn’t buy the photos as they were 20 quid (that can be better spent elsewhere), so please enjoy these photos of Canyon Explorers.

At the top of gondola is not just the mountain bike trails, but a luge. I thought this would be for kids, but boy did I have some fun on it. I probably was going too fast for their liking, but I managed not to crash (and also got some air too).

Next up, another activity which was a lot better than I expected, jet boating. They take you flying down a canyon through water that is sometimes only 5cm deep. Getting close to the canyon walls is what it’s all about, and I have to admit I closed my eyes a few times. Definitely scarier than skydiving and bungee jumping. I didn’t take any more than one photo for fear of losing my phone!

There was then some time to have some fun by the Queenstown lake, including trying out the famous Ferg burger (it was pretty good), an ice cream, and jumping off the pontoon into the freezing cold water.

We took a trip out the local Arrowtown, which is meant to be one of the best day trips from Queenstown. I was completely underwhelmed and thought what a waste of time it was, including the $2 bus fare. Anyway, here’s a photo. Even Dylan wouldn’t have saved it.

Finally, he’s back! I remembered to take Dylan with me up Ben Lomond, a huge mountain that dominates over Queenstown. Enjoy!

Now it’s time for some rest, and lots of hiking, as we head to the Fiordland (a huge national park at the bottom of New Zealand).
