Mooching around Melbourne

There’s plenty of stuff to do in Melbourne, there’s just not enough time. We’ve had a couple of days now just exploring the main city and some suburbs. Melbourne feels like any European city, plenty of culture with bars and shops at every turn.

We started off with a wet day (which seems to be a thing around here I am told) so went to a museum detailing the evolution of films, media and gaming. It was very interesting, I haven’t been to a museum like it.

Once the rain stopped we went to look at some of the street art, which is a common thing around Melbourne. There’s one street named after AC/DC!

One of the best bits about Melbourne is the free tram zone in the heart of the city. We have taken plenty of tram journeys are on our way to see the sights. We started off the next day by taking the tram down to the botanic gardens.

After that we took a trip down to St Kilda, which is a beach resort in the suburbs. The sun made an appearance at this point and we got a great view of the city centre from a distance.

Then the national gallery and Melbourne museum. I’m not an artsy person so probably didn’t fully appreciate the national gallery, but it was free and it was pretty cool.

After all that exploring, it was time for a walk in the park, a very expensive pint (I need to start drinking cheap goon pronto), and a nighttime walk along the river.

After a very busy couple of days exploring the main areas of Melbourne, we’re still in the area, but we’ve got some activities that will take us away from the centre over the next few days.
